We are an AVID School

We are committed to provide ALL students with the academic and college/career readiness strategies necessary for our students to compete in the global society.

When a guest walks into our school they they will be greeted with a welcoming, inclusive academic environment that shows our values of deep learning, celebrating the individual, and a strong emphasis on academic achievement while embracing college and career readiness.

As a faculty we are working on integrating the tenets of the AVID program into our classrooms, systems, and environment.

AVID Elective Expectations

Student Grades: AVID students are expected to maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher in all of their classes, especially in their core classes and foreign language classes.

AVID Tutorials: Every Tuesday and Thursday AVID students are required to come to the AVID class prepared with their Tutorial Form completed. Tutorials are a time for AVID students to work together for deeper understanding on points of confusion from their core academic classes.

AVID Binder: Students are expected to carry a 3 inch (or larger) binder organized according to school binder guidelines. Students take their binder with them everyday to every class and should take it home every night to review and student. This is non-negotiable.

Cornell Notes (CN): Mainly used during a class lecture, a class power point, a class reading, or a movie containing information for which the student must be responsible. To receive full credit, students must have the notes completed with the four components of the CN Method: Note taking; Annotating/Margin Notes; Questioning; Summarizing/Reviewing. A rubric for CN is provided.

Planner/Planner Sheets: Students must write any homework, tests, quizzes, projects (etc.) on planner sheets. The notes in the planner must be specific and detailed. If there is nothing for that class for that day, record the topic of the day, DON'T leave the square blank.

Homework: AVID students have homework every day. The homework consists of completing Cornell Notes daily in AVID and in their core classes. In addition, on Mondays and Wednesdays, students must complete the tutorial form (TRF) showing their critical thinking.
