HYDE PARK HIGHLIGHT

The Hyde Park neighborhood is located on the former land of the Potawatomi, Odawa, and Ojibwe nations but was founded in its current form in 1853. It has boasted a history of progressive politics and diverse community since 1948. Some of its interesting residents have done amazing things, such as the "People's Mayor" Harold Washington who inspired the 44th US President Barack Obama to move to Chicago, landing in Hyde Park as well. Once the setting of the 1893 Columbian World Exposition, the neighborhood still boasts one of the beautiful buildings built for the Arts (now the Museum of Science and Industry) and the beautiful parks and midways created for it.

Currently, the Barack Obama Presidential Library is under construction and the project aims to continue on the community building that is so important to Hyde Park.

Parts of a TV show called 61st Street starring Courtney B. Vance were filmed in front of TTIC's building. The show premiered in April 2022 on AMC.
