Description:
Permit Phase/ Classroom Phase: In the first 2-3 weeks of the course students will prepare for and take the written permit test. Students MUST pass the test to remain in the class. Students cannot miss more than 33% of class in the first 24 days of class.Students must complete 30 clocks hours of classroom in order to pass drivers education. If they are not present for 30 clock hours, they will fail the class due to attendance. The reason for the absence does not matter (suspension, hospilitazation, COVID).

SImulator Phase: Students will participate in 9 lessons on the simulator. The simulator will help students prepare for driving a real car. The students will watch and drive along with different films that will demonstrate various driving experiences.

Driving Range Phase: Students will drive on our driving range for 12 lessons (large parking lot on school grounds). While driving, they will work on various skills such as, forward and reverse, left and right turns, 3-point turns, serpentine, narrow roads and lane changes. Students will use all the knowledge gained in the classroom and simulator and translate that to real world driving.
Description:
Behind the Wheel Phase: Students must complete 3 hours of behind the wheel with an instructor from Thornwood. Students are required to have 50 hours of practice with their parents or guardians before this final phase happens. Teachers will fine tune their driving skills in this stage and prepare them for the driving test at the DMV.
