On December 15th, 2021, the Consortium for the Promotion of Lunar Science and Resources Engineering was established mainly by the Miyamoto Laboratory of the Department of Systems Innovation, School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo (A press release was also issued by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Tokyo on December 15th, 2021, announcing the establishment of the consortium.). This consortium aims to contribute to sustainable activities such as space science, exploration, and economic activities on the Moon. It is a framework for pursuing business models on extraterrestrial celestial bodies, including the Moon and Mars, and aims to share information, disseminate information, and develop human resources. With the cooperation of Tokyo Dome Corporation, the consortium has set up its base in the space museum TeNQ and has started its activities (We have moved our base to the University of Tokyo from spring 2023).
This consortium aims to achieve the following objectives: 1) promote the lunar science and lunar resource engineering, including sharing information and generating ideas related to lunar resources; 2) disseminate information to the public in collaboration with amusement companies and others; and 3) create various small and large lunar businesses while developing human resources familiar with space resource at universities and other institutions. We expect to have a very broad ripple effect and anticipate to attract the participation of research institutions including universities and national research institutes both domestically and internationally, private companies, and other organizations.
Every corporation and organization can participate in our consortium for free. The main activities consist of holding regular meetings and actively exchanging information. There is no obligation to provide your company information within the consortium. Additionally, there are possibilities to implement individual activities with other companies or organizations within the consortium with the NDA.
