Join New York Sea Grant and the Mid-State JMT on October 15 for an engaging professional learning experience focused on one of today's most pressing environmental challenges—microplastic pollution. From the Great Lakes to the world's oceans, microplastics have become a global environmental issue impacting ecosystems, wildlife, and communities across the planet. Addressing this challenge requires multidisciplinary solutions that draw upon science, engineering, technology, environmental stewardship, civic engagement, and creative problem-solving.

Discover how ongoing research at Rochester Institute of Technology and Cornell University can be transformed into authentic classroom learning experiences. Explore innovative technologies designed to capture and collect plastic pollution while connecting student learning to the New York Portrait of a Graduate.

Participants will choose from one of three learning pathways: Prevention, Interception, or Collection, and engage in hands-on activities such as building 3D-printed robots, designing trash-capture devices, and creating community outreach campaigns.

Be part of a growing community of educators committed to empowering students as problem-solvers and environmental stewards. This workshop also launches a year-long community of practice dedicated to addressing plastic pollution through meaningful, student-centered learning.
