To avoid stress at the end of each grading period, have your student plan ahead and read for a minimum of 20 minutes each evening. Grades in reading will come from in class assignments, vocabulary homework, tests, Lit Circle Packets and Accelerated Reader. Daily assignments, homework, and tests will carry the same weight.
Language/Writing: Grades will be based upon writing pieces that will be graded by a rubric and participation during the Writing Workshop. Spelling and grammar grades will also make up their writing grade. Selected assignments, quizzes, and tests will be evaluated.
Mathematics: Students will be evaluated on selected practice work, quizzes, and tests. Not all practice work is formally assessed. Evaluations will cover skills taught in the unit lessons. Assessed daily assignments, homework, and tests will carry the same weight.

Scores will be 4, 3, 2, or 1.

Completed assignments that are at least a week late will be assessed a 10% penalty. Assignments are not considered complete until they are submitted. Cheating will result in no credit given (0%). It is expected that all assignments are completed to the best of one’s abilities.
5th Grade Classroom Discipline Plan
Classroom Rules
The rules that Mrs. Ekey and Mr. Perdue have set forth for fifth graders are narrowed down to three things. They are the Dayton Bulldogs Positive Expectations of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe! Students are expected to be “leaders” and to follow these simple tasks at all times.
Behavior
While in the classroom students may receive tallies for not being respectful, responsible, or safe.
Consequences for tallies adding up are…
-1 is a warning.
-2 is a warning.
-3 is forfeit 5-minutes of a recess.
-4 is forfeit recess.
-5 is “Think Sheet” or parent contact.
-6 is an office referral.
- More severe behaviors may result in loss of more than one warning at a time. If a different plan becomes necessary in the classroom, you will receive notification of the changes. Think sheets may be utilized more frequently. Serious offenses may result in an immediate office referral.
