We have homework each evening. I do expect students to have their work complete and turned in on time. There is a 10% reduction for late work on the first day, and an additional 10% off for each day not turned in.
If work is not turned in, I will send a note home with the expectation that it will be completed that night. If it is a recurring issue, recess will be lost.
I do not want to keep kids from recess, but I find it very effective to help improve responsibility.
I am very reasonable, if you have a family issue, or any problem with homework, email me!
Our grading scale is as follows:
A = 90 - 100%
B = 80 - 89%
C = 70 - 79%
D = 60 - 69%
F = 59% and below
Weekly Homework
Daily: reading log (read 20-30 minutes)
Monday- reading practice, begin spelling and vocab words
Tuesday- math practice, spelling task #1
Wednesday- math practice
Thursday- math practice, vocab practice assignment, spelling task #2
Friday- test day, reading log one time over the weekend
Spelling
Spelling will consist of 15 words taken from our vocabulary list and 5 words to practice a phonics skill.
Your student will have a task from our spelling menu due on Wednesday and Friday. This is a fun way to practice and be creative!
Test on Friday.
AR Reading
Your student has made his or her own AR goal that they will be responsible for making this quarter. I made sure to keep it reasonable for the student.
They will earn a charm each quarter that they make their goal. I have found that students forget to take AR quizzes over what they read. I will remind them to take quizzes to make their goal.
Testing in 4/5
4th and 5th Grade
NWEA: Tested at the beginning, middle, and end of year.
STAR: Once per month to show growth.
ILEARN: Tested near the end of the year.
Math Groups
I teach 4th grade and 5th grade separately. There is a big responsibility on each grade level to work while I am working with another group. I have the expectation that during this time, each student is working hard.
PROBLEM SOLVING is HUGE!
Goal= MOVE 1 to 2 grade level(s)! That may mean some 5th grade students are working in 6th grade books by January!
Homework- Homework will come from the iReady Math series that we use at Wyandotte.
Greek and Latin Roots
We have 5 Greek and Latin Roots per week. Students need to study at home.
The quiz is application, so it is not easy. Students need to really understand the homework to get a good score on the test.
We will start doing a practice together in class to help with the understanding of the words.
