Grading Scale

100% - 90% = A

89% - 80% = B

79% - 70% = C

69% - 60% = D

59% and below = F

Reading and Writing ~ Grades will be based on a wide variety of assessments. Completion of assignments in the classroom, writing completed during writing instruction, assessments covering grammar skills, assessments covering phonics skills, comprehension tests, sight word identification, and much more. Participation and effort also play a critical role.

Spelling~ Grades will be based on the weekly spelling test that is given every Friday. Students will have an opportunity to earn extra points by correctly spelling “bonus words”. Spelling words can be found in our weekly classroom newsletter entitled, “Week in a Peek”. The newsletter will go home with your child every Friday.

Math~ Grades will be based on completion of assignments in the classroom, chapter tests, and quizzes. Participation and effort also play a critical role.

Social Studies and Science~ Grades will primarily be based on a student’s participation in classroom activities. It is important that students show an understanding of the skills and concepts taught in the classroom. This is demonstrated through participation and effort.

Consequences

First offense – Turn to green: Verbal warning

Second offense – Turn to yellow: Lose 5 minutes of recess

Third offense – Turn to orange: Lose half (10 minutes) of recess

Fourth offense – Turn to red: Lose entire recess and contact parents/guardians

Fifth offense – Turn to gray: Official Office visit
