ABOUT ME
Hello!
My name is Maddie Adams, and this will be my first year teaching at Woodland Elementary. I completed my student teaching in fifth grade at Wyandotte Elementary, and I graduated from Purdue University (Boiler up!) with a B.A. in Elementary Education in May 2025. I was born and raised right here in the Lafayette area, and when I'm not in the classroom, you can often find me at a local coffee shop or bookstore.
I am beyond excited to team up with you this year to support your child's educational journey! Fifth grade is such an exciting time, and I feel so lucky to share it with each and every one of you. This will be a time of growth, learning, and becoming leaders in the school. Yay for fifth grade! :)

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My teaching philosophy incorporates the foundational belief that every student enters the classroom as an individual and brings their own set of values, life experiences, and positive attributes to the classroom community. Every student has the right to be loved as they already are and to be supported according to their learning needs. All students have the potential to become critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and lifelong learners. Supporting students in acquiring such crucial life skills at a young age will encourage the development of healthy living and learning patterns that will carry them into adulthood. The betterment of our world can begin in fifth grade!
In our classroom, both my students and I are continuous learners. My goal is to push each child beyond what they already are capable of to make each student’s learning deeper and more meaningful to them. Because I, too, am a lifelong learner, I emphasize to my students that making mistakes is a given in life, and rather than seeing mistakes purely as a detriment, they are an opportunity for growth and new learning. My key educational goal is for my students to arrive in my classroom each morning knowing they are coming to a safe, inviting, accepting environment where academic and social-emotional learning opportunities are daily occurrences. If my students leave each day knowing how valued they are and that they have the ability to make a difference in the world, I will have accomplished one of the most important roles of my job as an educator.
