Music Grading Policy
In music, students receive participation grades as well as skill grades which are evaluated throughout the semester. These skills include an age-appropriate level of proficiency in the elements of music: melodic and rhythmic understanding, form, expression, timbre and texture.
In our thirty minute weekly time, we perform a variety of musical activities. Participation is 75% of the student’s semester grade.
Participation includes:
* coming to class prepared (bringing any materials needed)
* participating in singing, playing instruments, movement, and all music activities
*using Klondike’s Golden Rules:
We are responsible. We are cooperative. We are respectful. We do what’s right (show integrity). We do our best (perseverance).
The other 25% of the semester grade comes from periodic evaluations based on the Indiana Standards for Music Education. Assessments may be written, aural, or performance-based. Mastery or appropriate progress will be the criteria used for assessment.
