Volunteers may be in the building outside of morning drop-off and dismissal hours. A background check is required and has a fee of approximately $18. If you plan to volunteer, please get the background check early, because it can take some time for the results to get back to the school.

Homework Policy:

I strongly believe that when children are at home, it is their time to be kids: explore, create, play and most of all spend time with their family.
Therefore, I won’t be assigning nightly worksheets for homework on skills covered in class. However, I welcome family involvement in learning and practice at home as much as possible!
Read together
Write lists (grocery, chores, to-do’s), journal each night before bed, letters back and forth
Practice math facts during car rides or math flash cards before bed
Practice fractions with recipes & cooking
Make learning a normal part of the routine and fun
Students and families are also welcome to make use of the content and programs we are using this school year, at home each night, if you are seeking extra practice at home. Students can login via the TSC Tech Links page using their school login and password (which they know or can be found in your Parent PowerSchool account).

Grades shouldn’t be something that a child is stressing over at the elementary level. We must take into account the social-emotional needs of gifted learners (anxiety, perfectionism, etc.) & equity (2e learners, etc.). If students are learning and growing, they will receive “good grades” on their report cards.

Feedback Only and Authentic Assessments (observation, discussion, participation, effort, reflection & revisions)

Students learn to take ownership over learning, and do their best work, planning & prioritizing, time management, goal directed persistence, organization, & task initiation.
All work and assignments are weighted equally. Each is worth 2 points.

The Golden Rules
The Golden Rules
Klondike Elementary students follow the Golden Rules for positive behavior. All students make good choices by showing:
We are responsible.
We are cooperative.
We are respectful.
We do what’s right (show integrity).
We do our best (perseverance).
Each month these expectations are taught and modeled for the students. Classroom teachers keep track of student behavior each day in the classroom, lunch, recesses, and in Specials. Teachers use this information to determine if any of the behavior expectations need further instruction for the class.
Positive Consequences:

Quarterly schoolwide Golden Ticket Jamboree
Regular positive contacts home
Negative Consequences:
Unexpected negative behaviors will be recorded as “Corrections” on the clipboard by the supervising teacher under the Golden rule that connects to the behavior.
Teachers will use strategies and logical consequences to address behavior and assist students in growing from the correction.
Students with 2 or more corrections for a day will receive a call, email, or note home to let parents know about the behaviors.
Students with 5 or more corrections for the day can lead to Office Discipline Referral.
Students who need additional assistance with their behavior will move to a Tier II or Tier III behavior program.

I am always in search of and happliy accepting second-hand, gently-used items we can use in the classroom! Keep me in mind when you are Spring Cleaning!
Including but not limited to: left over holiday decor, old legos and other building sets, puzzles, board games, art supplies, left over paint, peel and stick wallpaper, craft paper, newspapers & old magazines, books (especially non-fiction), furniture: comfy reading chair, rocking chair, stools, book shelves, picture frames, mirrors, fans, battery operated or rechargeable string lights or lamps, bookends, floor pillows, vacuum, anything interesting and fun we could use in the classroom!
