My name is Kara Burks, and I am thrilled to be teaching your child this year. I look forward to supporting their growth and development throughout this exciting journey in second grade!
I recently graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Elementary Education. A proud graduate of Harrison High School and a former student of Burnett Creek Elementary, I bring a long-lasting and strong connection to the local community. I have been substitute teaching for TSC since 2021, and, in January 2025, I was hired for an adjunct teaching position in the same position that I am in now!
At home, I am the eldest of four siblings, with two sisters and one brother. Leah is a senior at Purdue University, Maya is a senior at Harrison High School, and Jackson is a sixth grader at Battle Ground. My mom, Leslie, runs a business in the new home industry, while my dad, Jason, serves as the Building Commissioner for the City of Lafayette. My family also includes two dogs, Harvey and Hazel, and a cat, Ellie.
In my free time, I enjoy going on walks, baking, reading, spending time with friends, exercising, and browsing around stores. Over breaks, I love traveling to new places. I prioritize staying busy and being surrounded by things to do and people to love!
I would describe myself as very much the "oldest daughter" personality. I am a very organized and type-A person. I am optimistic and confident, which enhances my ability to build relationships and manage a classroom. Empathy is a trait that I carry proudly, as well as patience and flexibility.
