All students at Mayflower Mill Elementary are expected to follow our Grinder Goals throughout the entire school building.
Grinder Goals:
Be respectful
Be cooperative
Be responsible
Do the right thing (integrity)
Do their personal best (perseverance)
Room 53's Discipline Plan
Classroom Expectations (based on the "Do the Right Thing" philosophy)
Students are expected to be respectful of everyone and everything in the classroom. Students should not damage property that belongs to any student or teacher. Students should be quiet and respectful when others are talking. Students should use kind words when speaking to others. Students should be respectful of the time we have to learn by being prepared for each day, following directions and staying on task during expected times.
Students will be encouraged throughout the day through positive reinforcement and acknowledgement of following expectations.
Mini-Economy Guidelines
· Each student will have a classroom job for which they will earn "income." Students earn bonuses or fines based on meeting the classroom and school-wide expectations.
· Weekly, monthly, and quarterly chances to spend their earned income are incentives for the students to do the right thing and earn money, and to avoid fines that deplete their savings.
· Other rewards and incentives are available for the class and individuals to earn. Students’ behavior and attitudes in other areas of school (i.e. specials, lunch, and recess) when aligned with Do the Right Thing principles will be rewarded by accumulating points and earning privileges and special occasions.
· If necessary, students who struggle to do the right thing will have additional strategies/plans added and if needed, a conference with their parents/guardians and teacher to develop an individual behavior plan.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is crucial for success in 3rd grade.
Because much of the curriculum is taught through discussion and whole group lessons, it is difficult to fully make-up an absence. It is the students' responsibility to make sure all missed work is completed. Assignments due on the day of absence are due upon return to school (see Homework Procedures). If you know about an upcoming absence ahead of time, please contact me so I can gather work for your student.
Communication
Home Folder: Students will be expected to take their Home Folder home each day and return it the next day. In this folder they will transport important information for parents/guardians and their homework to be completed. In the left pocket, you will find assignments that have already been graded and other documents that are meant to be taken out and kept at home. In the right pocket, you will find all homework assignments or documents that need to be completed and returned to school. Every Friday your student will bring home a Fine Sheet tracking their fines for that week. Please ask your student for this information every Friday, and return the signed Fine Sheet to school each Monday.
Newsletters: Newsletters will be sent home each Friday (in the Home Folder) and are available on my webpage. Please read the newsletter to stay up to date on our classroom activities for the following week
Grades: Parents and students are expected to check grades weekly on PowerSchool. Grades will be updated weekly, usually by Friday afternoon.
Class Dojo/Email: Feel free to contact me! I try to respond within 24 hours.
Discipline Procedures
Mini-Economy: Students apply for classroom jobs to earn a weekly paycheck. Students pay fines or earn bonuses based on practicing TSC's "Do The Right Thing" Traits. Students save money to spend on Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly Incentives.
Debt: Students who are in debt will not be able to participate in opportunities to spend money and will develop a behavior plan with parents and teacher to encourage positive behaviors and earn money back.
