Classroom Policies
HOMEWORK POLICY
I strongly believe that when children are at home, it is their time to be kids, explore, create, play and most of all spend time with their families. I also realize that we have a rather late dismissal.
That being said, sometimes students do not get their daily work done. I will send home any uncompleted work for homework on Tuesdays & Thursdays. This helps to ensure that students do not fall behind in their classwork.
Additionally;
Reading 20 minutes each night -is best practice to help get better at reading.
-We will occasionally have some special projects that students will need to work on parts of these at home.
GRADING POLICY
100% - 90% = A
89% - 80% = B
79% - 70% = C
69% - 60% = D
59% AND BELOW = F
Absences
We all get sick sometimes! When a student is absent, all materials from that day will be placed in their folder in the “absent crate" along with directions on what they need to complete.
The amount of days a student is absent is the number of days they have to complete the assignments missed. (E.g. absent 1 day = 1 day to complete the assignments). A folder will come home with the work they missed for them to complete at home. This ensures that students don't fall behind.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS...
Students will receive graded work throughout the week. Sometimes I will send homework for a student that is marked "redo." This is an opportunity for the student to redo the work for a higher grade. A student has 2 days to return this work with a parent's signature. Students will earn half credit back on each corrected answer.
Assignments should be completed to the best of the student’s ability and turned in on time.
Do Not panic if your student brings home a blurt alert. We are working on raising our hands when we want to answer, have a question, or comment. This has been easier for some than others but they are doing a great job with it. I just ask you to please sign and send it back....maybe discuss with them the importance of not just speaking out. We only implement this if needed at the beginning of the school year.
Good as Gold Rules
1. We are responsible.
2. We are cooperative.
3. We are respectful.
4. We do what's right (show integrity).
5. We do our best (perseverance).
Positive Consequences:
Good as Gold Tickets: Students can earn "Good as Gold" tickets from any staff member witnessing an act that represents one of our rules.
Nugget Award: Every week, one student who has displayed outstanding behavior will receive our Nugget Award for the week and will be able to choose a book to take home from our book vending machine. Their name will be in the school newsletter, and they will be recognized in the morning announcements.
Class Jar: If the whole class earns a compliment outside of the classroom (specials, lunch, recess, etc.), we will add a Star to our jar. Once the jar is full, we will celebrate with a whole-class reward(there will be other opportunities to earn stars as well)
Negative Consequences:
Logical consequences: Students will be required to think of a way to right the wrong they have done (e.g., a letter of apology, extra time to help others, etc.)
