In my classroom I use a Behavior Expectation Scale along with a “token” system.
Students can earn a 4 (exceeds expectations), 3 (meets expectations), 2 (approaches expectations), 1 (falls below expectations). The number that they receive for the day is the number of tokens they will receive.
I will also pay students for various things. They could earn a token for doing the right thing, giving a great answer or comment, doing something for someone else etc. Students will also have to pay me for not doing what is asked, missing homework, going to the bathroom (after their pass is used.) The first time I take tokens it’s a warning. Additional tokens paid to me will result in time off recess.
Students can collect tokens and then redeem them for prizes such as using the teacher’s chair, lunch in the classroom, prize box, or free time.
