I believe it is best for students to learn in an environment that is calm, safe, and happy. To foster this environment, all children are expected to follow these expectations:
I share with others.
I will raise my hand to speak.
I will listen when someone is speaking.
I will keep our room clean.
I will be a caring friend.
I will wait for my turn.
About our Classroom Dojo:
Class Dojo is a digital classroom management tool designed to help teachers improve student behavior and communicate more effectively with parents. Each student receives an avatar, which the child can personalize, and teachers create goals or behaviors to track, such as turning in homework, participating in class, or staying on task. Teachers can use a smartphone, tablet or computer to give or take away points throughout the school day. Each student’s points can be displayed via a smart board. At the beginning of each week, the students will each start with 0 Class Dojo points. They will have the capability of earning points in a variety of ways. Some examples include treating others with kindness, working hard, or receiving a compliment from other teachers or substitutes. I strive to give points whole group and not individually. I also prefer not to take points away from students unless necessary. Instead, I will have a discussion with the student about making better choices in the future.
Understand that in the primary grades it is a time where students are learning proper school behavior. Talk to your child if he/she comes home and says it was not a good day. Ask your child what happened. Talk to your child about what he/she can do next time that would be a better choice. Praise your child when he/she comes home and says it was a good day. You will receive a link via text message that allows you to sign-up and have access to your student's Dojo progress in the classroom.
At the start of each week, the children will receive a homework sheet to complete for the week. The homework sheet will contain the children's reading/phonics assignment. The parents will then sign off on the homework sheet, and on Friday I will collect the homework sheet for completion.
