Reading: Scores are recorded for a variety of assignments, quizzes, and tests, including AR quizzes over assigned books. Reading standards include literature, informational text, and foundational skills.
Literature:
Reads fiction independently for meaning.
Understands and explains the figurative use of words in similes and metaphors.
Reads fluently, accurately, and with expression.
Stays engaged during self-selected reading.
Informational Text:
Identifies and uses a variety of comprehension strategies to make meaning (i.e. main idea, supporting details, fact/opinion, text features, finding evidence within text, and integrating information).
Uses a variety of strategies to make meaning of text vocabulary.
Foundational Skills
· Develops grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words to read with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
Writing: Scores are recorded for a variety of written applications.

Writes essays using correct paragraph form.
