Attendance - If you are not in class you will not learn. Be in school unless you are ill or have another valid reason for not being here. You are responsible for make-up work, quizzes, tests, etc. when you’ve been absent. You have the number of days absent (excused) to complete the work.
Tardies – Tardies are recorded and you are made accountable for them according to current school policy. The passing period is your time. Do not ask permission to do things in order to be late.
Electronics - personal music systems, cell phones, and other electronics are forbidden during class time – that means the entire class period!
Dress Code – The current student handbook rules will be enforced. Keep it covered, people!
Procedures
1. Come to class prepared to work. You will need your textbook (Senior British Literature/current novel/other text) pencil/pen and paper every day. Borrowing is a very bad habit.
2. Computers (baby-puter, notebook, laptop, etc.) may be accessed only when directed by me or when time allows at the end of the class period.
3. Be respectful in both what you say and do towards others in the classroom at all times.
4. Listen to the person who is speaking. Be quiet during announcements, either being read or on the intercom.
5. Bring no food, candy or drinks to the room – water only in clear bottles – no exceptions. All should be eaten and disposed of in the cafeteria or commons. Gum may be chewed quietly if kept in your mouth.
6. You will not be allowed to go to your locker for missing items or assignments.
7. Sleeping is unacceptable! Keep yourself active and alert through classroom activities or homework, when time allows.
8. Follow standard letter-writing etiquette when emailing me. Use greetings and closings, use proper grammar and spelling, and be mindful of tone. In emails, parties cannot assess non-verbal cues or hear inflection. Be clear and concise. Always use the assignment in the subject line.
Maintenance
Students are responsible for keeping their desks clean and free of marks. Students are responsible for maintaining all school property (textbooks, videos, dvd’s, etc.) and for placing trash in the proper container. Just as your binders, folders and such are your personal property; I view the room and its contents as mine. Please don’t sit at my desk or assume that what’s mine is yours, please ask.
Evaluation
1. Assignments of all types are due when called for - no late work will be accepted for credit.
2. Extra help can be given upon request before and after school or periods 2 and 3.
3. Grading Scale: 100-90=A; 89-80=B; 79-70=C; 69-60=D; 59-0=F
*The only time a grade may be rounded up is the semester’s end (final grade). This is at my discretion based on attitude, work ethic, completion of extra credit (when given), etc. Aren’t you glad grades can’t be “rounded down”?
4. Semester Breakdown: Each 9 weeks = 40% and the final exam is =20% =100%.
Discipline
1. warning
2. conference with me
3. behavior report (to home, to office and filed)
4. sent out of class and to office
**If the situation warrants immediate action, the student may be sent directly to the office.
ALL POLICIES ARE IN EFFECT WHENEVER A SUBSTITUTE IS PRESENT.
