2020 Parents' Guide to Google Classroom

Internet Access

If your child does not have access to the internet, or if that access is not sufficient, TCS is providing two locations that student can drive up and connect to WiFi. These two locations are broadcasting a “Guest” network. Connect your device to the “Guest” network and your child can access the internet.

Please follow health guidelines by staying in your vehicle and not parking directly next to another vehicle.

Location 1: Hewitt-Trussville Stadium

Please park in the spots closer to the press box, as the WiFi signal is stronger the closer you are. Below is a map depicting our recommended parking locations. Leave a parking spot between you and another user. Follow recommended social distancing guidelines.

Location 2: Paine Elementary School Bus Line

Please park along the curb closest to the classrooms. Below is a map depicting our recommended park location.

Internet Service Providers Who May be Able to Provide Services

Several internet service providers have signed the Federal Communications Commission's Keep Americans Connected pledge. Below are companies that provide free services to students in their coverage areas and/or free public WiFi hotspots that students could access for some portion of each day while sitting in their cars or otherwise being physically isolated from others in the area.

During this time of uncertainty due to COVID-19, our customers need to stay connected more than ever.

We’re committed to offering special discounts to households affected by this virus. From Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, June 30, we’ll offer free access to internet and WiFi for new Pre-K to 12, college student and teacher households who don't currently have internet or WiFi service and at any service level up to 100 Mbps.

This discount will be applied as a credit for the first 60 days of your internet services. We’ll waive any installation or pre-payment fees to help get you started.

You can qualify for this offer if you:

  • Have a student of qualifying age at your service address with remote education needs

  • Have not subscribed to our internet services within the past 30 days

Call (855) 243-8892 to sign up. Please mention this offer when you call.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai launched the Keep Americans Connected Pledge March 13. CenturyLink was among the original list of companies that took the pledge and today, the company committed to extending it through June 30.

At CenturyLink, we know our customers are counting on us to keep our network running so our children can continue to learn and the world’s businesses can continue to run efficiently. We continue to stand ready, willing and able to meet our customers’ near-term and long-term needs and have been ensuring traffic continues to flow smoothly across our network, regardless of increased demand. We are waiving late fees and will not terminate a residential or small business customer’s service through June 30 due to financial circumstances associated with COVID-19. Today, we recommitted to the FCC’s ‘Keep Americans Connected Pledge’ outlining these actions. We are also suspending data usage limits for residential customers during this time period due to COVID-19.

For most customers, they do not need to contact us to ensure their service remains active. However, due to system limitations, our pre-paid customers may need to contact us if they are unable to access the internet due to a missed payment.
