Hewitt-Trussville Middle School is located in Trussville, approximately 15 miles northeast of Birmingham, and is part of the Trussville City School System. Trussville City Schools was created in 2005 and consists of five schools, with over 4,000 students and 500 employees. Today, Trussville is one of metro Birmingham’s most rapidly growing areas. The district was recently named a 2016 Best Community for Music Education in America by the NAMM Foundation.

Hewitt-Trussville Middle School is home to more than 1100 students in grades six through eight. HTMS has been recognized as one of the top middle schools in the state of Alabama. Not only does the school provide a solid educational program with opportunity for advanced classes, but the campus boasts an award-winning performing arts program, a strong athletics program, myriad extracurricular activities, and a unique club period. Our students are reminded daily of our vision: Have a great attitude. Do your very best. Treat people very, very well. Have unconditional gratitude no matter your circumstance.

The Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Band Program strives to have every student reach his or her individual potential in instrumental music. The band program serves more than 450 students in grades six through eight, with beginner enrollment typically around 200 students. The beginning band is divided into seven homogeneously grouped classes. Seventh and eighth grades students are enrolled into one of four levels of performing bands: Honors Band, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. All band classes meet every day for 49 minutes. A select group of eighth grade students form our HTMS Band Leadership Team and act as a service organization for our band program.

The HTMS Band program has received many awards as well as earned consistent superior ratings at the Alabama Bandmasters Music Performance Assessment. The band program is well-represented at the District IV Honor Band and Alabama All-State Band. The HTMS Honors Band has performed at several prestigious events in recent years including the 2017 Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and the 2016 University of Alabama Middle School Honor Band Festival. HTMS Band students also enjoy success and are leaders in athletics, drama, art, choir, student council, National Junior Honor Society, Duke TIP Program, dance team, and yearbook staff, just to name a few. The directors feel it important that students be allowed to explore as many different areas of life in their middle school years to find their true passion.
