Fire and Emergency Services Academy
Academy Overview
Students will learn first response emergency medical care as well as basic Fire Fighting. Fire Fighter training is offered to juniors and seniors committed to pursuing a career in Fire Fighting and EMS. The class is conducted on the HTHS campus with labs on the campus of the Trussville Fire & Rescue training facility. Also as part of this course, students will be required to participate in the Trussville Fire & Rescue Explorer Post and ride-a-long program. The course is taught by certified instructors of Trussville Fire & Rescue and consists of a combination of classroom study, drill field practice, and training evolutions.
Drills and training evolutions include but are not limited to:
- CPR
- Patient Assessment
- Bleeding control
- Injury management
- Working around live fire
- Using charged hose lines
- Raising and climbing ladders
- Using Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
- Working in and out of confined spaces
- Ropes and knots
- Search and Rescue
