Dear Parents & Guardians,
Research shows that reading just a few minutes a day significantly increases a child's reading ability. Summer is the perfect time to unwind with a captivating book in hand, and encouraging your child to participate is important for a rewarding summer reading program.
Students are encouraged to read a minimum of two books this summer. Our middle school teacher-librarians have organized lists of recommended books by genre (below). We recommend that you make your selections based on the suitability of the books for your individual child. Books here are suggested based on students' interests and reading levels, but students are welcome to explore other titles beyond this list.
To keep track of their reading progress, students can make a digital copy of this reading recording form or print this summer reading log. During the first week of school, Reading and ELA teachers will ask students to record all of their books into a Google form. It is essential for students to keep track of their summer reading.
A piece of lined paper with your student's full name and the titles of the books is sufficient if either link above doesn't work for you.
The school year will begin with discussions and an assignment related to students' summer reading books in their Reading or Language Arts classes.
This assignment will be graded and will count during trimester 1.
Enjoy a wonderful summer of reading!
