Writing Overview
Welcome to third grade writing! Our goal is to engage students through the writing process so that each student will see himself/herself as a writer.
Students will work in three genres of writing: Narrative, Informational, and Opinion.
Students will understand that:
writing is a process and each component has importance.
writers set goals for their writing and work to meet them.
writers write for specific audiences.
writers generate ideas from their own experiences and the writing of others.
writers work to increase their volume and stamina.
writers reflect on their writing.
writers apply language conventions consistently.
Key writing vocabulary: generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing, publishing, stamina, mentor text, small moment, storyteller's voice, reporter's voice, dialogue, share, claim, evidence.
Handwriting: Students learn cursive writing, not in abc order, but by letter formation groups. We learn loop letters, 2 o'clock letters, and up & down letters.
