Language Arts

Language Arts Program

I see potential and promise in all my students and encourage them to improve as readers and writers. I provide guidance so they can identify weaknesses and strengths, set specific goals for themselves, and assess their own growth. I model strategies needed to sharpen skills and work collaboratively with your child so that he or she knows the value in what is being taught.

Lessons are based on reading and writing units of study in narrative, opinion, and information based on a common core workshop curriculum developed by the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University Teachers College.

I require students to read for 20 minutes a night from a variety of genres and use strategies to improve their comprehension and effectiveness as a reader and writer. I want my students to have an enhanced appreciation of talented authors from all genres and learn from these mentor texts how to develop their own writing. I hope they develop reading habits that help them not only succeed in school but in the rest of their lives.
