Blue Devils'
Special Education Department

Welcome

Welcome to the Special Education extension of our site! The Special Education Department is excited to embark on a fresh school year of inclusive practices and tiered systems of teaching and learning. Our general education staff employs a variety of evidence based curriculum approaches that align to Ohio's Learning Standards while our intervention specialists provide differentiated instruction, along with response to intervention practices across all settings. A peak into our classrooms will demonstrate whole group instruction, flexible small grouping, as well as opportunities for one on one instruction to support all diverse needs. Our related service providers (speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy) connect seamlessly to the classroom and provide targeted services to enhance the whole child.

We also partner with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center (TCESC) as well as the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities (TCBDD) to provide services for preschool through Year 23 services. Our staff is dedicated to supporting students throughout their school experiences as they prepare to successfully transition from Roosevelt to the high school as well as into adulthood including post-secondary training, college enrollment, military enlistment, and employment.

Sincerely,
McDonald Local Schools' Special Education Team

Child Find
(Search for Students with Disabilities)

Child Find is the process of locating, evaluating, and identifying children with disabilities who may be in need of special education and related services. McDonald Local Schools is committed to the location, identification and provision of a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), for all children between the ages of 3 and 22, having disabilities. Location and referral of such children may be initiated by anyone with knowledge of the child and suspecting the child may have a disability.

The purpose of Child Find is to alert parents, professionals, and the public to children who may have special needs and to guarantee that school districts find children who may have disabilities and who otherwise may not have come to their attention. Another benefit is to enable eligible children to receive the special education and related services that are needed and to promote public awareness of disabilities.
