All students that are identified as gifted or talented are given the opportunity to attend GT once a week (at their own discretion). Students are advised to think about their grades and the content they will be missing when making this decision. It is not encouraged that students miss a core subject (English, Math, Science, or Social Studies) to come to GT. Most students receive their required time for GT through AP and Pre-AP classes in these subject areas.
In addition to AP, Pre-AP, and GT class, students are also given the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities connected to the GT program. We currently offer Chess, Quiz Bowl, and Odyssey of the Mind to each student.
Special emphasis this year will be placed on creative and critical thinking, research/independent learning, communication, and affective development. Students will also begin to work on "passion projects" and consider connections within our community. Each student will work to develop their own independent project that is a culmination of their time in GT. This could be anything from developing a school recycling program to shadowing a professional. The goal will be for students to begin to transition their gifts/talents from school to the world at large.
This documentation form is for any teacher that is teaching a Pre-AP class. One of these forms, along with any accompanying documentation, must be sent to Mr. Duggins each 9 weeks. This is to fulfill the requirement of the Arkansas Department of Education that the GT Coordinator document the differentiation that gifted students are receiving to supplement time in the GT classroom. These forms can be sent physically or digitally to Mr. Duggins.
