TruHacks Code of Conduct
At TruHacks, we are dedicated to fostering an environment of respect, inclusivity, and professionalism for all participants. We expect all attendees, including participants, organizers, sponsors, and volunteers, to adhere to the following code of conduct throughout the event:
Harassment and Discrimination: Harassment includes offensive comments related to any individual's gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or any other protected characteristic. This also includes sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, photography or audio/video recording without reasonable consent, sustained disruption of activities, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Immediate Compliance: Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Hack Creations: As this is a hackathon, please note that the projects created are equally subject to the anti-harassment policy.
Reporting Concerns: If you are being harassed, witness harassment, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the TruHack staff immediately.
Staff Assistance: Our staff is here to help. We can assist in contacting local security or law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise support those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event.
Consequences: If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate. This may include a warning, expulsion from the event, or reporting the behavior to local law enforcement. The participants will be responsible for any damages caused to the university or to any the essentials provided by the Organizing Committee (Such as sleeping bags, etc).
Venue and Social Events: We expect participants to follow these rules at event venues, workshops, and other events. As this hackathon is being conducted inside Truman State University's premises, the participants are also required to follow Truman's Code Of Conduct.
Responsible Use of Facilities and Equipment: Participants are expected to use event facilities and equipment responsibly and ethically. This includes but is not limited to respectful treatment of event venues and property, proper disposal of waste and recycling materials, careful handling of technology and equipment provided by the organizers, and compliance with all facility rules and regulations.
Alcohol and Substance Use: TruHacks is a substance-free event. The use, possession, or distribution of alcohol, illegal drugs, or other controlled substances is strictly prohibited on event premises. Participants are expected to maintain sobriety throughout the duration of the event.
Confidentiality and Data Privacy: Participants must respect the confidentiality and privacy of all individuals and organizations involved in the event. This includes protection of sensitive information shared during workshops, presentations, or discussions and adherence to all data privacy laws and regulations when handling personal or proprietary information.
Non-Discrimination in Team Formation and Collaboration: Participants must not discriminate against others based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected category when forming teams or collaborating on projects. All individuals should have equal opportunities to participate and contribute.
Intellectual Property Rights: Participants must respect intellectual property rights and avoid infringing upon the intellectual property of others. This includes proper attribution and citation of sources used in projects, avoidance of plagiarism, and unauthorized use of copyrighted materials.
Environmental Sustainability: TruHacks is committed to environmental sustainability. Participants are encouraged to minimize waste, conserve resources, and promote eco-friendly practices throughout the event. This includes proper disposal of waste and recycling materials, minimization of paper usage through digital documentation and communication, and consideration of the environmental impact when making decisions during the event.
Compliance with Local Laws and Regulations: Participants are expected to comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations during the event. This includes but is not limited to laws related to public safety, health, and intellectual property.
Promotion of a Positive Community Culture: Participants are encouraged to promote a positive community culture characterized by mutual respect, support, and collaboration. Any behavior that undermines the spirit of inclusivity and cooperation is not tolerated.
How to Report?
If you feel uncomfortable or feel like there has been a violation of the code of conduct, please report it immediately to the following staff. All reporters have the right to remain anonymous.
Event Staff Members: Please reach out to any staff member present at the event if you have concerns or need assistance.
