For children experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges, child-centered therapy is an approach where the therapeutic relationship between therapist and the child becomes a healing catalyst. The therapeutic environment is set-up as a safe and accepting space. This intentional atmosphere allows for free and creative exploration and emotional expression. While feelings are explored and opportunities for growth are discovered, this supportive environment allows for the practice of these skills including coping techniques and self-regulation. Typical goals we work on together are in the areas of self-esteem, worry, prosocial and executive functioning skills, just to name a few.
While child-centered therapy is focused on the child's needs and goals, typically any therapeutic approach I use with my younger clients is accompanied by sessions with parent(s)/guardian(s) as well. These sessions can be periodic or more frequent, depending on the needs and experiences of each client.
Seeking support for individual change in our behaviors, thinking patterns, and beliefs about ourselves, is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself. I want to commend you for seeking change and opportunity for your own life. Accepting the possibility for positive change is the hardest part!
Adult individuals seek support for many reasons. These can include personal struggles including, family conflict, divorce and separation, behavioral challenges, pressures at school/work, communication, generalized anxiety, questions about life purpose, self-expression, peer conflict, life skills, grief and loss, etc. I also specialize in family dynamics with children and parents, and the many complex interactions involved.
The expressive arts tools I use when working with children are also available when working with adults of all ages, if you find them helpful. Therapy should feel like an accepting and nonjudgemental space, and I intentionally embody that feeling in my work as much as possible.
I typically utilize cognitive behavioral and relational therapy techniques that meet you exactly where you are, and as you are. While it can be self-empowering to have goals in mind before therapy starts, we can always make these goals together. Come as you are and together, we will do the rest.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by your child's behavior or just the immense amount of time and energy it takes to be a parent, I can help! Parenting can be a completely unique and entirely fulfilling adventure. Just as there can be times we can find ourselves further from where we want to be with our kids. This can be a great time to consider parent coaching. My approach supports parents in being able to better understand and know how to respond to their child's many needs. I utilize my background in child and human development to provide education about the many stages children go through in their formative years and what we can do as parents during those stages to best support their healthy development.
Along with the many positive experiences and changes of pregnancy can also come social and emotional struggles.
