Jersey Shore Makerfest
The Largest Free Maker Event on the East Coast!
IT'S BEEN A GREAT FIVE YEARS!
About Jersey Shore Makerfest
Begun by two Toms River Regional Schools administrators and a handful of other volunteers in October 2015, the JSMF has been an experimental, experiential, educational, non-profit annual community event, a FREE and free-wheeling celebration of creativity and imagination that's equal parts MythBusters, science lab, county fair, and art studio. It has consisted of 70-100 maker booths and workshops, a drone/RC field, EdTalks, competitive and instructional robotics arenas, and the annual town Green Fair. Over 400 makers and 14,000 attendees joined us these over these five years.
JSMF's sustainability commitment
Makerfest has always been an environmentally conscious event, striving to use materials that are recycled or recyclable, minimizing minimize waste, and encouraging refillable water containers rather than single use disposable water bottles.
Spaces and More
It began in 2015 in our 3500 seat Pine Belt (now RWJBarnabas Health) Arena. In 2016, we added a gymnasium in adjacent High School North. By 2018 we were in six spaces, including a 3200 sf MakersSpace and EdTalk studio with live interviews and motivational presentations; two gyms full of Robotics; three AirSpaces (patio, ballfield, and lot for RC and solar cars, drones, and a mini sub); and the outdoor GreenSpace hosting our town Green Fair. Each year we merged traditional skills with modern high tech through mini workshops on soldering, programming, woodwork, 3D printing, laser cutting, PBL, robotics, electronics, home wiring, and more.
All free, of course-- thanks to our incredible sponsors.
