The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law
The Scouting America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law
We are a very active troop with camping, cooking, first aid, wilderness survival, orienteering, and pioneering.
Troop 264 meets at Grace Church every Tuesday night with a fully planned agenda. A typical night would be a troop flag ceremony, patrol discussion, and preparing for upcoming outdoor games. Then, the leader’s minutes and closing ceremony.
Troop 264 has been recognized as the most active troop by the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council several years in a row. Our troop runs with the scout motto, scout oath, and scout law in mind, and fun factors for everyone!
Troop History
Troop received our first charter certificate form sometime in January 1961. Since all troops were given the 1st day of the month for them to celebrate, our official date is January 1, 1961
For your scout to progress throughout their journey in scouting, there are ranks that they need to get to achieve the final rank, Eagle. The ranks before that are first Scout, then Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, then Eagle. To achieve these ranks, you will need to perform tasks such as signoffs. They quiz you on the information that scouting teaches you in order to keep that info in mind. To achieve the Star, Life, and Eagle ranks, you will also need to earn Merit Badges. These badges teach you specific skills such as First Aid, Cooking, Camping, etc... some are REQUIRED for Eagle, and others that are not. To rank up, you will also need to participate in Scoutmaster Conferences and Board of Reviews. A Scoutmaster Conference allows you to talk about your scouting experience with a Scoutmaster(Essentially a Scouting Leader certified by BSA). A Board of Review quizzes you on certain signoffs you have learned in that rank. (Keep in mind that every rank needs a Scoutmaster Conference and a Board of Review, but only Scout rank does not need a Board of Review) Board of reviews are conducted by parents of your fellow scouts but Scoutmaster Conferences are conducted by a Scoutmaster. Once you rank up or receive a new Merit Badge, you will reap that reward in the Court of Honor. This happens every three months and you are given your badge for either your Merit Badge or Badges that you earned or your rank up. You also get to drink a root beer float at the end of the meeting! Good luck in your Scouting Endeavors!
