Massawepie Summer Camp 2022

Located on a 3,769 acre parcel in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York State, Massawepie Scout Camps combine unique wilderness programs with a traditional Boy Scout summer camp.

Canoe, kayak, or sail on our gorgeous mile-long private lake, hike over 20 miles of well-kept trails, and camp along eight ecologically diverse ponds -- all without ever leaving camp property. Massawepie’s location is perfect for programs like mountain biking, outpost camping, and high-adventure experiences for older scouts and Venture Crews. Our highly trained Voyager guides can lead your unit on a 3- or 6-day trek through the Adirondack wilderness -- by foot, canoe, or bike -- as either an independent trip or an extension of your week of Camp.

The Massawepie Scout Camps have been operating continuously since 1952.

Sea Base Adventure 2022

Sea Base began in the early 1970’s as a local program in the Florida Keys called the Florida Gateway to High Adventure. It offered primarily sailing programs using local marinas and chartered boats sailing to the Bahamas and back. As the idea caught on and grew, it joined the high adventure offerings of the National Council of the BSA along with Philmont Scout Ranch and the Northern Tier High Adventure Base. In 1979, Sea Base acquired a permanent facility on Lower Matecumbe Key and when this opened for Scouts in 1980 it was renamed the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base. As the popularity of this program grew, scuba diving was added and in 1984 the BSA received the gift of Big Munson Island from Homer Formsby.

Herkimer Diamonds and Howe Caverns

The Howe Caverns is a cave in Howes Cave, Schoharie County, New York.

The Howe Caverns is named after farmer Lester Howe, who discovered the cave on May 22, 1842. Noticing that his cows frequently gathered near some bushes at the bottom of a hill on hot summer days, Howe decided to investigate. Behind the bushes, Howe found a strong, cool breeze emanating from a hole in the Earth. Howe proceeded to dig out and explore the cave with his friend and neighbor, Henry Wetsel, on whose land the cave entrance was located. Even to this day, the cave is at a constant temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit, irrespective of the outside weather.
