Established in 1980 on the shores of the Florida Keys, the BSA Sea Base has grown into a premier destination for maritime high adventure. Just as Philmont offers the rugged beauty of the mountains, Sea Base provides youth and adults with unparalleled opportunities for sailing, scuba diving, and marine exploration. Operating primarily through the summer and spring break seasons, the various bases serve as a hub for scouts to test their seafaring skills in the Atlantic and Caribbean waters.
For many in our troop, a trek to Sea Base is the ultimate aquatic milestone and a highlight of their scouting career. We rotate this high-adventure trip into our schedule every few years, offering it specifically to our older scouts who are at least 14 years old. Whether we are living aboard a 40-foot sailing vessel or exploring remote tropical islands, the journey is a source of incredible stories and lifelong friendships built on the open sea.
