Key Themes: Intentionality
Key Themes: Intentionality
Being Intentional:
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout the MSET program, as well as my undergrad, is that every instructional decision should be intentional. There were times when I chose tools because they were engaging or visually interesting. Through my coursework, I started to understand that every choice should have a purpose that directly supports learning. Intentionality means slowing down, thinking through the “why,” and making decisions that are aligned with goals and the needs of learners. This mindset shaped the way I now design materials for my classroom and how I evaluate technology integration.
MSET Objectives:
Apply learning theory and instructional design principles in curricular decision-making
Demonstrate proficiency using computers and related technologies in instruction
Integrate computer software, authoring tools, the Internet, and multimedia into curriculum design
Be proficient in finding, evaluating, and using educational research
Understand and evaluate emerging innovations in computer and information technology
Use systematic problem-solving and human/computer interaction practices
Projects from MSET Courses:
Project 1: SD History Multimedia Lesson
LT 731 – Visual Design for Learning
This Adobe Express lesson required me to apply visual design principles with clear intention. Every layout choice, image, color, and media element needed to support student understanding rather than create a distraction. I learned to design with purpose by focusing on clarity, accessibility, and flow. I plan to use these skills when creating digital lessons for my classroom, especially when introducing complex topics.
Project 2: Genially Interactive Lesson
LT 731 – Visual Design for Learning
This project taught me how to build an interactive, media-rich lesson with intentional design choices. I learned how to structure content so that each interaction had meaning and helped guide learners through the material. The intentional use of movement, icons, color, and sequencing made the content easier to follow. I plan to continue using Genially for lessons where interactivity supports deeper engagement.
Project 3: Project-Based Learning Unit
Course: LT 712 – Instructional Technology for Active Learning
Designing this PBL unit required intentional planning in every step. I learned how to align goals, tools, and student tasks so the project felt purposeful and meaningful. This reinforced the idea that technology should enhance learning, not lead it. I plan to use this intentional approach whenever designing future PBL experiences.
Project 4: Practical Action Research Paper – Gamification and Student Engagement
LT 785 – Research Methods in Educational Technology
This action research project required me to be intentional at every stage of the process. I had to identify a problem, review current research, select appropriate methods, gather data, and analyze the results to determine whether gamification improved student engagement. Every decision had to be grounded in purpose and supported by evidence. This project strengthened my ability to make instructional decisions. I plan to use this approach in my classroom whenever I adopt new technology tools or instructional strategies.
