Consistency
One of the biggest areas of growth for me throughout the MSET program has been learning how important consistency is in teaching. As a fourth-grade teacher, I’ve always known that students learn best when routines are predictable and expectations stay the same. But through my coursework, I began to understand consistency on a deeper level. It isn’t just about classroom routines, it’s about creating learning experiences that are aligned, organized, and reliable. Whether I designed a STEM challenge, created a digital lesson, or built a professional development module, I learned how consistency supports clearer instruction and smoother learning. Consistency has helped me become more purposeful in how I plan and design learning experiences.
MSET Objectives:
Apply learning theory and the principles of instructional design in curricular and instructional decision-making
Demonstrate proficiency using computers and related technologies in instruction
Integrate computer software, authoring tools, programming languages, the Internet, and multimedia into curriculum design and instruction
Projects from MSET Courses:
Project 1: Distance Learning Sequence
LT 741 – Introduction to Distance Education
This project required me to design a sequence of learning tasks for students working in a distance learning environment. I focused on creating clear instructions, consistent navigation, and organized modules so students always knew what to expect. This project taught me how much consistency matters when students cannot rely on in-person guidance. I plan to use these design principles when creating digital lessons and online learning experiences for my classroom.
Project 2: Classroom Website
Course: CET 721 – Web Authoring
In this project, I created a classroom website that used consistent layouts, color schemes, fonts, and organization. The goal was to design a user-friendly site that students and families could navigate easily. Through this work, I learned how consistency in visual design and site structure improves communication and supports a smoother learning experience. I continue to use these skills as I update my classroom website and create other digital resources.
Project 3: Project-Based Learning Unit
Course: LT 712 – Instructional Technology for Active Learning
For this project, I designed a full PBL unit that relied on consistent instructional steps, aligned activities, and predictable routines. Students moved through the unit following the same structure each time. This taught me how consistency in instructional flow helps students focus on the learning instead of the logistics. I plan to apply this structure to future units to help students feel more supported and confident.
