Throughout the Fall Semester
Teams of 2 to 4 students will form and begin the journey of identifying, exploring, and solving a specific problem that they select relating to healthcare. Throughout this period, students can access a variety of Healthcare PRISm resources, providing guidance and tools to help students:
Understand key insights relating to their problems from a human-centered approach
Ideate to identify meaningful and creative concepts that could address their problems
Develop their solutions through processes of experimentation, iteration, and business model development.
Entries due in November
Each team will submit an entry for their innovative healthcare solution, with applications accessible here. Entries include:
A one-page executive summary
An application form providing key details about their concept using the Lean Canvas business model tool.
Entries will be evaluated and grouped into broad problem categories (e.g., patient experience, care navigation, social determinants of health, etc.). Selected teams will then be invited to further develop their concept and pitch for the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition, a virtual event in early February.
Early February
Invited teams will develop pitch decks that they will present virtually at the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition. In the weeks prior to the actual competition, each team receives individualized coaching from healthcare innovation experts, providing meaningful guidance to help teams advance their concepts. The competition itself includes:
A "Best-in-Category" pitch round, with teams competing against fellow concepts in their problem category
A format that allows judging panelists to "workshop" teams' concepts, helping them consider their next iterative steps
An "Elevate" round, in which teams not selected as "Best-in-Category" will be invited to continue by iterating and pitching their concepts once again the following week, with one team selected to advance to the Healthcare PRISm finals the next day
A "Best-in-Show" pitch finals with cash prizes for finalists, with teams encouraged to continue to iterate and adapt their concepts (and pitches) ahead of the finals

Healthcare suffers from a myriad of problems; leaders must be able to identify and deeply understand the many challenges they face.
Healthcare PRISm allows teams to consider a wide array of problems, asking students to self-select, validate, and curiously engage the specific problem that resonates with them.
Healthcare solutions must be more than just technically feasible or fiscally viable; meaningful innovation must also be truly desirable.
Healthcare PRISm promotes creative problem solving from a human-centered approach, valuing empathy-driven solutions that deeply resonate with those experiencing the problem.
Healthcare can't wait for disruption to come from outside; tomorrow's leaders must be ready to transform the industry from within.
