Teams of 2 to 4 students
Teams may be comprised of 2, 3, or 4 student members. All team members must be currently enrolled in a healthcare management graduate program. No program limits
Participating schools or programs can submit entries from as many teams as are interested. Further, there are no restrictions on the number of entries that may be selected and invited for the competition for each school or program (i.e., multiple teams from a particular school or program may be selected for invitation to compete in Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition).Graduate student-focused
Healthcare PRISm is currently limited to students enrolled in healthcare management graduate programs (e.g., MHA, MPH, MBA with healthcare concentration). Participating students must not have completed their programs prior to the competition date. Each entry must be the original work of the students who comprise the team.Existing companies and startups are not eligible
Healthcare PRISm is not intended for concepts that have already launched as a business, even if that business is being led by a current student.Intent to Participate
Teams interested in participating in Healthcare PRISm and planning to submit an application should first complete the "Intent to Participate" form, which is nonbinding and can be accessed here. Teams should also carefully read through each of the details and guidelines shared in this page.Deliverables
Each team should prepare two items to be submitted as part of their application to Healthcare PRISm:Application Form
The Healthcare PRISm application form is based upon the framework of the Lean Canvas, a simple business plan template that helps innovators easily identify and think through their problem, solution, and key assumptions. Lean Canvas (created by Ash Maurya) is adapted from The Business Model Canvas (created by Alex Osterwalder) and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Un-ported License.Pitch Deck
Teams that are selected to present in the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition will be asked to develop a pitch deck (PDF or PowerPoint) that includes the material for a 5-minute pitch of their concept as well as any desired Appendix materials for a 10-minute Question and Answer segment. There are no limits on the number of slides that can be included in a team's pitch deck, although teams should be careful to ensure that their material can be effectively presented within the 5-minute timeframe.Summer & Fall
Teams interested in participating in Healthcare PRISm should submit an Intent to Participate form (nonbinding). This will allow Healthcare PRISm to effectively plan for the competition as well as ensure that each team has the information and resources they need to capably complete their applications.November (Date TBD)
Team applications to be considered for competition in Healthcare PRISm are due.December (Date TBD)
A panel of external judges will review each team's submitted application, and of those submissions, a select number of teams will be invited to compete virtually in the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition in early 2024.Early 2024
In the weeks prior to the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition, each selected team will have an individualized coaching session with a healthcare innovation mentor, providing meaningful guidance regarding ways to continue advancing their concept and strengthen their pitch as they prepare for the competition. Teams will be required to submit their pitch decks and final materials in advance of the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition, which consists of two rounds. First, all invited concepts will be grouped into four broad problem categories. The first round - a "best in category" pitch round - will take place in a series of bracket competitions, with each team competing against fellow concepts in its problem category. Each team will be assigned a 30-minute time slot, during which they will virtually present their pitch, participate in a Q&A session, and have additional time to "workshop" their concept with panelists to identify potential steps to continue advancing their concept. After deliberation, judges will announce teams that have been selected as "Best-in-Category," which will be invited to advance to the "Best in Show" finals the following week. Teams not selected as "Best-in-Category" will be invited to continue to the "Elevate Round" the day before the Finals, during which they'll have an opportunity to adapt their concepts and pitch once again to the Elevate Round judges. One team will be selected from the Elevate Round to join the other four "Best-in-Category" teams and compete in the Healthcare PRISm Pitch Competition Finals. After finalists have presented and judges have deliberated, the selected winners of Healthcare PRISm will be announced.Day 1: Date TBD

Teams are developing a specific solution to a specific healthcare problem they have identified. Proposed solutions must demonstrate how they can effectively address a problem or need relating to the promotion or maintenance of health, the provision or administration of health services, or the experience of seeking or receiving healthcare.Examples
Healthcare PRISm is designed to be open-ended rather than prescriptive in terms of the problems that students address and solve. Thus, each team is responsible to select and validate the specific healthcare problem that they will solve through their innovative concept. Examples of potential problem categories that teams may explore include, among many others:Webinars
In advance of the submission deadline, teams can learn more about how to navigate the creative problem solving process (e.g., design thinking, Lean Canvas development, how to make a pitch, etc.) as well as what potential judges may be looking for through a collection of online videos and webinars that can be accessed asynchronously as their Healthcare PRISm journey progresses.
