Guidance on how to answer each of the different question styles - remember, this is just a summary of what you have learnt in lessons
General advice:
Use your key terms, sociologists and theories - this is the best way to show knowledge
Read each question very carefully and highlight what it is asking
Only answer what you are being asked
1 mark questions:
Read the question carefully
For questions with four responses only one answer per question is allowed
Fill in the circle
Don’t tick, cross etc. Just colour it in!
Put a cross through the whole box if you change your mind
2 mark questions:
'Examine...'
These questions will normally focus on a strength/weakness of a piece of research
Say what the strength/weakness then explain why that is the case
E.g. a strength of quantitative data is that it can be easily analysed so trends can be identified easily
3 mark questions:
'Describe...' - tell the reader what it is
'Identify and describe...' - state your way clearly then describe more about what your point is
4 marks:
'Identify and explain...' - clearly state your way then elaborate on that with a more detail on how or why this is the case
'Identify and describe....' - using a key study. You state what it is asking you then offer a summary of the key study (yellow sheet). Remember to include the perspective.
12 marks:
'Discuss how far sociologists agree that....'
Point, Explain, Evidence, Evaluate, Link - Repeat
Evidence should include a theory or sociologist
It MUST have a conclusion
