Structure of the course
Over the two years of study we will cover the following topics-
Individuals, firms, markets and market failure (Microeconomics)
1 Economic methodology and the economic problem
2 Individual economic decision making
3 Price determination in a competitive market
4 Production, costs and revenue
5 Perfect competition, imperfectly competitive markets and monopoly
6 The labour market
7 The distribution of income and wealth: poverty and inequality
8 The market mechanism, market failure and government intervention in markets
The national and international economy (Macroeconomics)
9 The measurement of macroeconomic performance
10 How the macroeconomy works : the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis, and related concepts
11 Economic performance
12 Financial markets and monetary policy
13 Fiscal policy and supply-side policies
14 The international economy
Assessment
Exam Board: Edexcel (Pearson) . in May/June 2027 your final assessments will consist of 3 x 2-hour exam papers of equal value. There is no coursework element.
Paper 1 covers all of the Microeconomic topics (1-8).
Paper 2 covers all of the Macroeconomic topics (9-14).
Paper 3 Economic Principles and Issues covers topics (1-14).

The CGP A-Level Economics Complete Revision & Practice. ISBN 9781782943471. We will be selling these through the school in September, when we can get a decent discount.
We will also ask you to buy from the school once the term has begun a set of Physics & Maths Tutor Economics notes which contain all the most important diagrams and concepts.
