"Empowering Your Career Journey: Navigating a Path to Success"

Youth Pre-Apprenticeship programs allow school districts to offer rich, engaging opportunities to all students to help them plan for their future careers. The Tri-County ESC Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a collaborative partnership between school districts, workforce development agencies, the community, and Registered Apprenticeship Sponsors that provides students with exposure to and experience in the work environment.

The program's mission is to empower students on their career journey and provide them with the skills they need for in-demand jobs after high school.

Students can earn points toward graduation through approved pre-apprenticeship programs.

Pre-apprenticeships can count towards both the “Show Competency” and the “Show Readiness” portions of the graduation options. Through these programs, students can earn points toward the Industry-Recognized Credential Seal, the OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal, and other local seals.

Pre-Apprenticeship Industry Clusters

Tri-County ESC Pre-Apprenticeship pathways include Hospitality & Tourism and Manufacturing.

Students participating can select one of the following pathways:

Hospitality & Tourism

Students who select this industry cluster will participate in hands-on learning in areas like customer service, marketing and sales, food service, and branding.

Potential Occupations include:

Chefs and Dinner Cooks
Hotel Managers
Travel Agents
Recreation Guides
Custodians and Housekeepers

Manufacturing

Students who select this industry cluster will participate in hands-on learning in areas like the principles of manufacturing, work area safety, machining, and metal technologies.

Potential Occupations include:

Programmers
Small Engine Mechanics
Safety Engineers
Machinists
Welders and Solderers

Getting Started With Pre-Apprenticeship

The Tri-County ESC Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides classroom training and hands-on career exploration and work experiences.

Students meet with their school counselor to get all the details.
Review program requirements and select their pathway.
Complete the student application, parent & student agreement, and placement agreement (if applicable) no later than November 1st and return to school.
Complete all requirements of your program during your Junior and/or Senior Years.

Students will take courses at their school that align with their chosen industry pathway
Students will participate in Career Exploration Activities and/or On-Site Placement experiences with an employer (as approved by School District)

Earn your Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate and use your Pre-Apprenticeship experience to count towards your graduation requirements.
Have the opportunity to enter an Apprenticeship Program after graduation to continue their education and earn money (Optional).

Hospitality & Tourism Sponsor

Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio is the Hospitality & Tourism Registered Apprentice Sponsor. Students that complete the pre-apprenticeship program will have the opportunity to explore furthering their skills and education by applying to Hocking College's Culinary Arts School

Manufacturing Sponsor

Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio is the Manufacturing Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor. Students that complete the pre-apprenticeship program will have the opportunity to explore furthering their skills and education by applying to Sinclair Community College's Machinist Registered Apprenticeship Program.

Job Readiness, Student Support Services, and OhioMeansJobs Centers Information

There are certain skills/characteristics that employers routinely look for in a potential employee. These are skills that are of high value in the workplace and can contribute to success in higher education as well. While technical skills are very important, these are the skills/characteristics that make an employee invaluable and not easy to replace. Some identify these characteristics as “soft” or “professional” skills. Some examples are:

• Conflict Resolution

Students who participate in the pre-apprenticeship program have the opportunity to contact the local OhioMeansJobs Centers for information on support services, including but not limited to, economic assistance, childcare, transportation, food banks, WIOA, CCMEP, etc.
