Our experience at Catalina Island with CELP

When we went to Catalina Island we did lots of fun things like snorkeling, kayorkeling (which is kayaking somewhere to snorkel), rock climbing, we took hikes, we jumped in the ocean and we even did a ropes course, but out of everything we did my favorite thing was breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Chase's favorite thing that we did was night snorkeling because of all the bioluminescence and because he saw a squid!

Violet's favorite thing we did was day snorkeling because of all the amazing creatures we saw in the ocean.

Asher's favorite thing was learning about all the interesting and amazing organisms on the island.

Tyler's favorite thing to do was gaga ball "The best part of Catalina Island was the gaga ball," said Tyler on his piece of paper with orange scribbles. He also enjoyed kayorkeling with me because he tipped our kayak over and we almost drowned!

Gaga ball is a very fun, very intense game, that involves a ball! Look it up.

Captain Marvel Review

Captain Marvel is the first movie since the unfortunate end to Infinity War, with Nick Fury pressing his Captain Marvel pager. Taking place in 1989, accompanied by Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson unravels the story of her past.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday

To celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2nd, all of the Youngers, Middles, and Olders did an art piece. They were put up in the main room and we just had to get a picture.

The Yard Sale was a success!

It was amazing how many non-TRHS people came to the Yard Sale. We had hoped that the whole sale would make between $100 to $400, but we were amazed that the final count of the proceeds was $596.75! Thank you so, so much to all the people that donated used items to us!

Ways you can reduce plastic in daily use

Invest in reusable grocery bags. Bring water from home in reusable bottles. purchase food like cereal, pasta, rice and beans from bulk bins and fill reusable containers. Shampoo and soaps, as well as sweeteners, oils and nut butters are all available in bulk at many natural food stores. Give up plastic straws! Bring your own cup when you're out to get coffee. Invest in metal lunch containers and maybe bamboo utensils. Raise unicorns, and use them for transport, instead of unhealthy polluting cars and airplanes. Unicorns are the best. If your can't raise Unicorns, raise Unikitties.

The Four Phases of Marvel.......So Far

The Marvel universe has certain phases that they divide the movies into. We are currently in phase 3, but after Avengers 4, Spider-Man will kick off phase 4. There are 19 movies in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). The first phase of the MCU, in chronological order, is Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America the First Avenger, and The Avengers. Phase 2 is made of Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America, The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-man. Phase 3 is Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame. Phase 4 will get a sweet start with Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Easter history

Easter Bunny

The Bible makes no mention of a long-eared, short-tailed creature who delivers decorated eggs to well-behaved children on Easter Sunday; nevertheless, the Easter bunny has become a prominent symbol of Christianity’s most important holiday. The exact origins of this mythical mammal are unclear, but rabbits, known to be prolific procreators, are an ancient symbol of fertility and new life. According to some sources, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their children made nests in which this creature could lay its colored eggs. Eventually, the custom spread across the U.S. and the fabled rabbit’s Easter morning deliveries expanded to include chocolate and other types of candy and gifts, while decorated baskets replaced nests. Additionally, children often left out carrots for the bunny in case he got hungry from all his hopping.

Did you know? The largest Easter egg ever made was over 25 feet high and weighed over 8,000 pounds. It was built out of chocolate and marshmallow and supported by an internal steel frame.

Easter Eggs

Easter is a religious holiday, but some of its customs, such as Easter eggs, are likely linked to pagan traditions. The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring. From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to at least the 13th century, according to some sources. One explanation for this custom is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration.

Easter egg hunts and egg rolling are two popular egg-related traditions. In the U.S., the White House Easter Egg Roll, a race in which children push decorated, hard-boiled eggs across the White House lawn, is an annual event held the Monday after Easter. The first official White House egg roll occurred in 1878, when Rutherford B. Hayes was president. The event has no religious significance, although some people have considered egg rolling symbolic of the stone blocking Jesus’ tomb being rolled away, leading to his resurrection.

Easter Candy

Easter is the second best-selling candy holiday in America, after Halloween. Among the most popular sweet treats associated with this day are chocolate eggs, which date back to early 19th century Europe. Eggs have long been associated with Easter as a symbol of new life and Jesus’ resurrection. Another egg-shaped candy, the jelly bean, became associated with Easter in the 1930s (although the jelly bean’s origins reportedly date all the way back to a Biblical-era concoction called a Turkish Delight). According to the National Confectioners Association, over 16 billion jelly beans are made in the U.S. each year for Easter, enough to fill a giant egg measuring 89 feet high and 60 feet wide. For the past decade, the top-selling non-chocolate Easter candy has been the marshmallow Peep, a sugary, pastel-colored confection. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based candy manufacturer Just Born (founded by Russian immigrant Sam Born in 1923) began selling Peeps in the 1950s. The original Peeps were handmade, marshmallow-flavored yellow chicks, but other shapes and flavors were later introduced, including chocolate mousse bunnies. Happy Easter everyone!

The food at Catalina Island

The staff at Catalina Island made amazing food like pasta, macaroni and cheese but they were extremely good and filling. At almost every meal I would stack pretzels and pepperoncinis and eat all of them along with the tacos or sandwich or whatever we had.
