6th Grade US History

Dear Parents,

I am looking forward to an exciting year with your children. Please make sure you read through the classroom ground rules, code of conduct, procedures, and supply list with your child. This year at Rivera Middle School, 6th graders will be studying American History from post-American Revolution through Civil War. The district is focusing on increasing literacy in the content areas so don’t be surprised if your child tells you he or she is reading a novel in social studies. There will also be an increased emphasis on primary sources.

Below is the district grading policy for social studies. It is very important that your child complete homework as well as review what was learned in class every night. It will make studying for tests and quizzes easier. Also much of the homework will involve either reading about and summarizing current events or multi-day mini projects. Grades for your child can be checked regularly on Power School.

District Grading Policy -

Homework - 5%

Classwork/Participation - 20%

Quizzes - 25%

Tests/Projects/Performance Tasks - 50%
