Dr. Jacob Narverud Composer-In-Residence
The semester is flying by and all the choirs are busy putting final musical elements in place as we prepare for our Composer-in-Residence week with Dr. Jacob Narverud. Dr. Narverud is an American composer, arranger, conductor, and pianist. He is a sought-after composer who has been commissioned to write new works for over fifty choral organizations nationwide,as well as ensembles in Australia and Japan.
The TCAPS Vocal Department Composer-in-Residence is possible due to a generous bequest from Mr. Bill Engle, a long time TC Music Booster. Dr. Jacob Narverud composed a piece of music for us and we invited him to work with our students March 6-10 during class time. The culminating concert will be given on Thursday, March 9 at 7:00 PM at Corson Auditorium on the campus of Interlochen Center for the Arts. This concert will feature collaborative performances by our TCAPS secondary choral students, featuring:
Central High School Bel Canto, Choral-Aires, and Chorale
East Middle School Chamber Choir

Music Boosters Spotlight:
This week, take note of Eliza Beutler, TCAPS alumnus, Class of 2019.
“Music has always been so important to me. It is a means of expression, community, healing, and social change,” writes Eliza.
This past fall, Eliza had the lead role in MSU’s opera. She’s currently in her fourth year at MSU, studying music education and vocal performance. In addition to her involvement with the MSU opera theater, Eliza is also president of the MSU chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and the MSU representative on the MSVMA student activities board. She also sings with the MSU chorale and teaches private lessons to students ages 7-17 at Roth Academy in Grand Ledge.
Eliza got her start singing in her church choir and at both East Middle School and Central High School, with roles in several of Central’s musical productions. Eliza was the recipient of a Music Boosters scholarship which she used for private voice lessons.

2022 Music Boosters Benefit Concert Dedication
Creative Services Manager-TCAPS Media
Every year the TCAPS Music Department staff selects an individual or group that goes above and beyond with their support of the TCAPS Music Program. This year we dedicate the 2022 Music Booster Benefit concert to an individual who has definitely been behind the scenes - especially during COVID. This individual was instrumental in allowing us to share our music with family and friends during the last two years by spending countless hours recording and editing professional video that we could share with our audiences here and far away. His creative genius has also allowed us to share our musical explorations when we have traveled abroad by filming performances and providing interviews with students as they experience different cultures and then sharing them with family and friends who were not able to travel with us.
