Parent Wellness Coaches follow up individually with parents to support in the process of reflecting on personal progress, problem-solving around barriers, and connecting to additional resources. One-on-one coaching calls serve as an individual touchpoint between a parent and their Parent Wellness Coach. This is a dependable time for parents to...
Connect with a supportive person
Reflect on life satisfaction and wellbeing
Celebrate personal growth
Identify supports for personal goals
Problem-solve challenges with a supportive thought partner
Activate personal agency and motivations
These calls complement Monthly Parent Circles and serve as checkpoints following Annual Goal Setting.
Goal setting helps families clarify what matters most to them and take meaningful, manageable steps toward supporting their child’s growth and well-being. Setting and reflecting on goals is a learned skill that asks individuals to be vulnerable and honest. The Goal Setting conversation is best when held prior to or at the beginning of Parent Circles. The coach and parent(s) walk through four categories: parent well-being, parent support network, parent resources, parent knowledge and child development, and health and parenting confidence. Coaches support parents in identifying their strengths, identifying areas they would value growing in, and assessing the network of support they have access to. They conclude by creating an explicit Parent Wellness goal that they'd like to reflect on during monthly coaching and in their Parent Circles group. Parent Wellness Coaches can help parents build the muscle of goal setting and reflection through Self-Assessment (individual) and Group Reflection (group) activities.
Parents of young students and those new to goal setting and reflection typically begin with a one-on-one, guided Self-Assessment conversation with a Parent Wellness Coach before Parent Circles begin. During this conversation, the coach walks through four categories: parent well-being, parent support network, parent resources, and parent knowledge and child development, health and parenting confidence. Coaches help parents to identify their strengths and assess the network of support they have to access before participating in the Parent Circles Experience. At the end of this Parent Circle series, parents revisit this with a second self-assessment conversation to create a snapshot of where they're currently at, reflect on their Parent Circles experience, and create an explicit goal that they'd like to continue working on during monthly coaching.
For parents that have already participated in at least one iteration of Parent Circles or in communities that have extensive opportunities to practice goal setting and reflections, schools may wish to invite them into Group Reflection activities (see Goal Reflection on the Parent Circles page). All materials needed for Group Goal Reflection are featured inside of the Parent Circle facilitation decks.
