Our Texas partners will have to implement the following components into their redesign.
Blended Learning
Blended learning combines face-to-face instruction with online learning by leveraging technology. The Christensen Institute further specifies that blended learning is a formal education program in which:
Part of the learning occurs online, with learners having some element of control over the time, place, path, and/or pace
Part of the learning occurs in school
The modalities along each learner’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience
High Quality Instructional Materials
The Texas Education Agency requires that materials in math and ELAR qualify as high quality instructional materials (HQIM). This means that they have been approved by TEA or have received a rating of 80% or higher on EdReports.
High Dosage Tutoring
High-dosage tutoring (HDT) involves tutors meeting with small groups of students, at a regular cadence, in order to meet the needs of individual students in ways that are extremely difficult for a teacher to replicate in a classroom of twenty or more students. Some schools have created a block of time
Social Emotional Wellbeing
The process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
Extended Learning Time
Extended learning time (ELT) takes place when hours are added to the school day, or school days are added to the year, in order to better support students and educators. TEA defines extended time as 180 instructional days and a minimum of 75,600 minutes per year.
