Tracy Earth Project hosted its downtown Earth Day event on Saturday, featuring information booths on a range of planet-friendly groups and businesses in town.

Among the presentations was Mayor Nancy Young offering the Key to the City to Tracy Earth Project CEO Dotty Nygard. Also on-hand for the event were teachers and students who earned the top awards in the Tracy Earth Challenge, a competition that had 190 elementary-, middle- and high-school students submit 35 projects for judging last week, with $1,000 checks going to each of the classrooms that placed first in the judging.

Tracy Earth Project recently hosted an educational talk at Tracy High featuring speakers from Heirloom, a Tracy-based company whose direct air capture technology is designed to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
