· Session 1: June 27 – July 1, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
· Session 2: July 18 – July 22, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Each session will consist of five professional development lessons – please see below for additional information on lessons and eligibility.
Participants will receive a $150 stipend and leave with the tools they need to help them put everything they learn to good use. We will also be providing snacks and beverages each day, including some from local establishments in Topeka. Classes will take place at the Cyrus K. Holliday Building, located at 620 SE Madison.
Applications will be accepted from April 1 through April 22, 2022.
Get to know your City! – June 27, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., and July 18, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
This session will give you an inside look into the City of Topeka as an organization and how it runs. It will include presentations from local leaders and department staff, hands on experiences learning about different job duties, and much more! Will provide snacks and lunch from a local establishment.
Launch Yourself – June 28, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., July 19, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Everyone needs a personal brand, it’s a great selling point for employers and looks great on college applications. With the help of two communication specialists, you will be able to build your professional profile as they cover topics like social media management and email etiquette, help develop an online portfolio, and teach you how to build strong working relationships by perfecting your interpersonal skills.
Adulting 101 – June 29, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., July 20, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Growing up is hard! This session will provide teens with the basic tools and knowledge they need to be successful on their own. A few of the topics covered will include car maintenance, budgeting, time management, and self-defense.
Strength Builders Career Exploration – June 30, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., July 21, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Developing strong leaders in our community is essential! This session will help teens identify individual strengths and then teach them how to apply them towards important qualities including trust, compassion, stability, and hope. They will also learn how to be an important team player by figuring out how to work best with other’s strengths.
Skills to Pay the Bills – July 1, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., July 22, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
This session will focus on developing the skills you need to be a great student and employee. Learn how to dress for success, interview like a champ, and create a resume that will take you places! We will also dig deeper into career interests and see if we can map out a path for success.
