Why make a women's band director group in Kansas?
We wanted to create a group for women band directors in Kansas that is collaborative, supportive, and unique to the teaching situations of what we experience so that we can share insight, encouragement, and stories with eachother.
When was the chapter started?
It was a long process that originally started in 2017, but the Kansas Women Band Directors Association was officially chartered in 2023 as an affiliate of the Kansas Bandmasters Association at the summer convention in Wichita
What other groups is KWBDA affiliated with?
The Kansas Women Band Directors Association is an affiliate of the Kansas Bandmasters Association with a KWBDA member/representative on the KBA Board. KWBDA is also thereby affiliated with the Kansas Music Educators Association.
How much does is cost to join?
Right now, membership is completely free! The only thing members pay for is at special events.
What can I do to contribute?
Volunteer to be in leadership positions, volunteer to organize/host events, seminars, etc. across the state of Kansas. Make sure that you are a part of the conversaiont and that your voice can be heard.
How can I promote women band directors in Kansas?
Put your name on the ballot for leadership positions in your area, host festivals, hire female clinicians at your events, choose music by diverse composers in your classroom and at your events, advocate for your program, be a mentor to young teachers to help to encourage them.
