Zoom is a video conferencing tool. It allows users to connect through video, audio chat or dial in. Users can easily share screens as they connect. You can zoom from an app on the computer, iPad, or phone, or from a Zoom website. The website offers more controls and setup features than the app. You may want to do use the web portal to take advantage of the added features. Zoom website - zoom.us. sign in using your Google account. While Zoom is a powerful tool for distance learning, you need to take some time to you through the videos and resources below to become comfortable with using it.

If you are having difficulty logging into Zoom, make sure you have created an account prior to clicking on the link to join a Zoom session.

Teacher Resources

Teachers - you must schedule a meeting and share the nine- (ten-digit if they are using personal IDs) digit code with your students prior to the meeting. If you are a primary teacher, you can just share the number and students can access your session on the Zoom app on the iPad. iPad users do not need to log in if they have the code. The code is your meeting ID#. For 3rd grade and up, you can share a link through Google classroom or via email. If you don't know the code, look at the top left corner of the screen.

All TPS teachers have been upgraded to a Licensed Account.

Basic (free) Account

  • can only have 100 participants in a Zoom meeting

  • limited to 40 minute meetings if there are more than 3 participants

Licensed Account

  • can have up to 300 participants in a Zoom meeting

  • unlimited minutes

  • customized personalized meeting ID

  • be an alternate host (co-host)

  • ability to schedule on behalf of others

  • ability to use addons such as polling,

Important Setup Information for Teachers

Disable screen sharing from other participants (students) in Zoom. This will stop a student from hijacking your screen during a session

Easiest Way to Create a Code and Sent it to Your Students

  • Open your Google Calendar

  • Click to add an appointment

  • Add the name of your Zoom in the title,

  • Enter the date and time on that line

  • Click the More Options below

  • Click the blue 'Make it a Zoom Meeting' button

  • A line will appear above this button with a link

  • Copy the zoom link (will end with 9 numbers)

  • Open Google Classroom

  • Click the Classwork tab at the top

  • Click Create -->Assignment

  • Title it

  • Click the Add button-->link

  • Paste in the link

  • Click Add Link

  • Send it out to your students.

  • Click Create

Transferring to a new host

As the host of a Zoom meeting, you can assign the host controls to another user and leave the meeting. This allows the meeting to continue without you, and the assigned user to have host control over the meeting.

If the original host is a Licensed (Premium) user, the meeting will continue to run for an unlimited time, even if the new host is a free or basic user.

If the original host is a Free or Basic user, the meeting will be limited to the 40 minute duration, even if the new host is a Licensed user.
