T・スカ・マンギシ　トンガ王国特命全権大使による大使リレー講義を実施しました

　2025年1月28日、トンガ王国特命全権大使T・スカ・マンギシ閣下にお越しいただき、講義をいただきました。

「The Kingdom of Tonga in Global and Regional Affairs – “With Passion and Knowledge”グローバルおよび地域情勢におけるトンガ王国『情熱と知識をもって』」と題して約1時間半の英語による講義と質疑への応答をいただきました。トンガ王国がどのような国か、長い歴史と豊かな文化、地政上の位置づけとともにお話いただき、また55年にわたる日本との国交について紹介されました。東洋大学のラグビー部で活躍するトンガ出身学生の紹介を踏まえて、トンガの「人」が大事であることも強調されました。そして、最後に太平洋諸島の学生たちが気候変動との闘いのために世界をめぐって声をあげていることを紹介し、東洋の学生も自分ごととして考え、行動していくことの大切さを語ってくださいました。

この講義は、東洋大学国際学部国際地域学科が「大使リレー講義」として2006年度（当時は国際地域学部）から、各国の大使にお越しいただき講義をいただいています。国際地域専攻の学生の必修科目「国際地域学基礎Ⅱ」の授業の一部としても実施し、約230人が聴講しました。

We were honoured to have His Excellency T. S. Mangisi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Tonga, give a lecture to us as part of the Ambassador Relay Lecture Series of RDS on 28 January 2025.

His Excellency's lecture, which was delivered in front of approximately 230 audiences and lasted for an hour and a half in English, was titled 'The Kingdom of Tonga in Global and Regional Affairs – "With Passion and Knowledge"'. During the lecture, His Excellency touched upon the kind of country the Kingdom of Tonga is, its long history and rich culture and nature, its geopolitical position, and also introduced the 55 years of diplomatic relations with Japan. He also highlighted the significance of the people of Tonga, citing the example of a student from Tonga who is active in the rugby club at Toyo University. Finally, he introduced the students from the Pacific Islands who are raising their voices around the world in the fight against climate change, and spoke about the importance of Toyo University students thinking about and acting on this issue as their own.

This lecture forms part of the 'Ambassador Relay Lecture' series, which has been held since 2006 by inviting ambassadors to give lectures to Toyo RDS.
