Vaccinations

The Bexley School Age Immunisation Team administer childhood immunisations at school.  The current immunisation programme is:

Autumn Term, Year 7-11 - Flu Vaccination
Spring Term, Year 9 - DTP / MEN ACWY
Summer Term, Year 8 - HPV  

Consent is taken electronically via the Bexley Immunisation Team. A link is sent out on the parent's communications when it is live. The link will also be put on this page when it is active. If you have any immunisation queries, please speak to the Bexley Immunisation Team.

Ongoing Medical Conditions

If your daughter or son has an ongoing medical condition, their care will be overseen by our school nurse, Mrs Rudd who is based on site in our medical room. 

An Individual Health Care Plan will be drawn up for students with long-term or complex medical needs to ensure effective support is given to the student.

If your daughter or son has a prescribed adrenaline auto-injector for a severe allergy, they should carry two of these at all times during the school day.  They should also carry any other medications that they need during an emergency (ie an inhaler or antihistamines). The school have 4 emergency AAIs that are placed strategically around the school for use in an emergency. The school also have another 2 AAIs that are used to take on school trips as spares.

Students who require an asthma inhaler should carry this with them during the school day.  An emergency inhaler is kept in the medical room with spacers. We also have spare inhalers that are taken on school trips.


MEDICAL care plans 

If your child has an ongoing medical condition eg asthma, allergies, epilepsy, sickle cell anaemia etc, we will need a personalised care plan for them. Please see below the links to all relevant care plans. Completed care plans should be sent to Mrs Rudd, the school nurse, at medical@townleygrammar.org.uk before the start of the first school term. These should be updated annually or if there are any changes by parents and sent to the medical email. 

There are specific care plans for Asthma, allergies and epilepsy. For students with diabetes and sickle cell anaemia, please send through the up to date care plan from your nurse specialist. For all other medical conditions please complete the individual health care plan. Please see all available care plans below.

DIABETES care Plans

For students with diabetes, please send in to the school nurse their up to date care plan from your diabetes specialist team. Please update this annually or if there are any changes. 

All students with diabetes are allowed to carry their medications, snacks, drinks and phones for checking their blood sugars. All diabetic students are given a medical pass to be able to leave lessons if they need to. 

All students with diabetes have their own box of extra snacks and any other equipment they need in the medical room. Please could you send a box in on the first day of term. We are also able to store spare insulin in our medical fridge if needed.

SICKLE CELL ANAEMIA CARE PLANS

For students with Sickle Cell Anaemia, please send in to the school nurse their up to date care plan from your sickle cell specialist team. Please update this annually or if there are any changes. All students with sickle cell are given a medical pass in order to be able to access help whenever they need to.

MEDICATION IN SCHOOL

Pupils should not carry medication on them during the school day, except for medication which would be needed in an emergency i.e. asthma inhaler / adrenaline auto-injector / diabetes medication.

Any short or long-term medication required to be taken by students during the school day should be handed in to the medical room.  Medication should be in original packaging and labelled with student's name and form.
